Headlight tints can be extremely helpful for vehicles, not to mention a stylish customisation option for your vehicle. But do the cons outweigh the pros?
In this blog, we will answer the question ‘Does headlight tint affect brightness?’
This is an important question to explore for those considering this customisation option. Of course, we want to be able to customise our vehicles without presenting a hazard to other road users, and ourselves.
The UK automotive aftermarket industry is thriving, ranking fourth in Europe and ninth in the world in terms of size, and turning over an annual £21.1 billion.
The sector supports 345,600 jobs and contributes £12.2 billion each year to the economy. And it is growing: the sector’s value is set to rise to £28 billion by 2022.
Why do we need headlights?
Headlights play a crucial role, similar to the lights in our room, it illuminates our surroundings so we can travel safely, especially in areas that are not well-lit. Additionally, there are instances of low visibility weather, such as fog and heavy rain, in these instances using your headlights and/or high beams is the best way to safely navigate in your vehicle.
Without headlights, we would only be able to travel during the day. Understandably, this doesn’t work for everyone, hence the necessity for headlights.
What is a headlight tint?
Headlight tinting is the process of applying a specialised film on the surface of a vehicle’s headlight or rear lights, this process results in a variety of benefits including:
- Adds a refined aesthetic to your car
- Can help reduce glare from your headlights
- In the event of a crash, the adhesive may prevent the glass from shattering everywhere.
You can buy tinting film online or through a service that specialises in car customisation, we recommend the latter as there is less room for mistakes when dealing with experts like us.
Effects of cheap tinting
If you buy a low-quality tint film, then it may be more prone to bubbling, cracking, fading or peeling. Our tints are guaranteed to be top quality, with varying options in strength, with installation directly from us.
For peace of mind, with no reduction in quality and application, we are the superior option for any and all of your tinting needs, whether that is a window or light tinting! Our services are always done to the legal requirement so you don’t have to worry.

Does headlight tint affect brightness?

Yes, headlight tints affect brightness, anything under 50% will affect the brightness but not to a level where your vision on the road, or the effectiveness of your lights is compromised.
However, if you have a headlight tint over 50%, it will affect the brightness of your headlight, additionally, any headlight tint over 50% is not legal. Driving with headlight tints that are not within the legal threshold can result in you being stopped by authorities, have the tints removed and/or face further legal consequences.
Are headlight tints the same as window tints?
No, although they seem very similar, they serve different purposes and contain materials that allow them to be effective for the part of the vehicle in which they are placed.
Window tints add an extra level of privacy to your vehicle, whilst protecting it from UV rays, in addition to allowing less heat to enter the vehicle through the windows. Furthermore, the tint film may also help prevent the window glass from shattering over you, as a result of the adhesive of the tint, holding the glass together (it won’t prevent cracks.)
Headlight tints, as we previously established, serve to reduce the amount of light that leaves the headlight. They can also help prevent a headlight from shattering, similar to the way window tints can help prevent it.
Can I use window tints on headlights?
Yes, but it is not recommended you do this. There are specific tints for headlights and windows, which are made from different materials, and would mean that using the wrong kind of tint can result in a subpar tint, or cause damage to the vehicle.

- Fully covered the headlights, without overlapping or underlapping any areas, it is cut clearly.
- Light can still pass through it.

- Overlapping or underlapping the headlight
- Bubbles are between the light and the tint
- The tint is peeling
- The tint isn’t properly stuck on
