The sector supports 345,600 jobs and contributes £12.2 billion each year to the economy. And it is growing: the sector’s value is set to rise to £28 billion by 2022.
That’s why we at Car Specialist Customs are here to provide you with all the information you require to get the best car customisation possible, whilst being as informed as possible.
What is a vehicle wrap?
A vehicle wrap is a layer of vinyl which can be added onto your vehicle similarly to a window tint, however, a vehicle wrap is exclusive to the body of a vehicle. Vehicle wraps provide aesthetic improvements and refinement, whilst also providing a nominal level of protection to your vehicle.
There are 3 kinds of wrappings that are generally used.
- Advertisement— Wrapping a logo or brand on the vehicle. This is unlikely for a lease provider to allow this on a vehicle, but again is subject to their stipulations.
- Colour Vinyl Wrapping – This can either be opaque, which would change the colour of your vehicle, wherever the wrapping is, or, to change the finish of the vehicle.
- Clear Vinyl Wrapping – As the name suggest, a clear vinyl wrap is applied to the vehicle, not changing the colour or tone of the vehicle. This would likely be the safest option for a leasing company to allow when it comes to wrapping.
Are vehicle wraps legal?
Yes, vehicle wraps are completely legal. The only exceptions to this are wrapping your vehicle in order to impersonate a government agency, such as the police. The other possible exception would be a wrap that contains words or imagery that is inappropriate and causes offence.
In regard to consequences, it is at the discretion of the officer who is dealing with you, there is a possibility of a multitude of charges, depending on the situation. This can include…
- Being charged with fraud.
- Points on your licence.
- Removal of the wrapping.
- Towing of your vehicle.
- Suspending from driving until a later date.
- Being arrested.
Always use common sense and consideration when deciding on a wrap for your vehicle.
Can you wrap a leased vehicle?

Yes, it is possible to wrap a leased vehicle. However, you must confirm with your lease provider before moving forward with any kind of modification. This is because at the end of your lease, your vehicle will be returned to the provider, unless you choose to purchase it.
In some cases, modifications may lower the value of the vehicle, each lease provider may have their own regulations regarding modifications such as wrapping, so it may not necessarily be a one-fits-all approach. It’s worth making enquiries with lease providers if you are yet to lease a vehicle.
Why would you wrap a leased vehicle?
Wrapping a leased vehicle, if you gain the permission to do so, is an effective method in protecting the vehicle, whilst keeping it looking fresh and brand-new. The vinyl wrapping protects the vehicle from UV damage, superficial scratches, and any stains that could affect the vehicle’s paintwork.
Does a vehicle wrap impact car performance?
No, vehicle wraps do not impact the performance of your car. The only occasion that this could be a possibility, is if the wrapping was incorrectly applied, and a long piece of uncut wrapping found its way inside your vehicle’s engine.
Vehicle wraps only affect how your vehicle looks, or how it is effected by the elements and common occurrences such as superficial scratches.
Where can I get a vehicle wrap?

Vehicle wraps can be bought online, should you decide to apply it yourself. The easiest method is by contacting established vehicle wrappers such as Car Specialist Customs to take all the stress and work from this process off your shoulders.
Our combined years of experience in wrapping vehicles of various shapes and sizes, when we wrap your vehicle, we make sure to…
- Discuss what wrap you want, and where you would like it.
- Measure the vehicle / relevant areas where the wrap will be applied.
- Clean the vehicle / relevant areas before applying
- Begin our process of application to your vehicle
- Inform you of any maintenance / dos and don’ts when it comes to the longevity of the wrap.
How much is a vehicle wrap?
Vehicle wraps are not defined by a single set price, the cost of a vehicle wrap is dependent on these factors.
- Which areas you would like wrapped.
- The size of your vehicle.
- The type of wrap you want.
Once these factors are established, we will be able to provide an accurate quote, as we will have a better understanding of the work and resources we need to wrap the vehicle to your specifications.
Can I take my wrapped vehicle to a car wash?
Unfortunately, vehicle wraps may dissolve or become loose if they are taken to a drive-through car wash, or a manual car wash. The only way to avoid this possibility is by cleaning the vehicle yourself with products that are friendly to vehicle wraps, or going to a manual car wash that has these products on hand.
